10 Simple Steps to Break Free of the Past

10 SIMPLE STEPS TO BREAK OF THE PAST:

1. Take a realistic assessment of your current state of mind. How much time do you spend living in the past?
2. Are you still going over old ground? STOP. Ask your unconscious mind to take the lesson and discard the thoughts, inner pictures and negative talk that are associated with past events and mistakes.
3. Forgive yourself. The only place the past ever exists is inside your own mind. I learned that from Dr. Wayne Dyer. It’s a common-sense lifesaver!
4. Start something new. The internet is a great place to reinvent yourself. Visit http://home.earthlink.net/~janceyk12/enterprisingsoul for information, ideas and inspiration.
5. Release relationships with those who refuse to acknowledge the changes you’ve made in your life. Often people closest to you may have a vested interest in keeping you in an unproductive mental space.
6. Check your inner critic. How will you ever break of the past if some sarcastic, unappreciative voice in your head jumps on you whenever you attempt to think differently

about yourself? Pay attention! Who’s REALLY telling you that you’ll never be any different?
7. Make some new friends. There are people around who have no preconceived notions about you! Start over with THEM, being careful not to carry old baggage or negativity into new relationships.
8. Find a new talent within yourself. It’s always shocking to discover you are capable of so much more than you ever thought! You won’t have TIME to linger in the past if you are happily pursuing avenues you never even knew were open to you!
9. Do a mental task, like imagining every negative thought or image that pops into your head is automatically tossed into a recycle bin or composter in your mind each time it occurs. Sooner than you realize, this will become a habit of mind. They recycle or compost process tells your mind to take what it needs and trash the rest!
10. Help someone! There is no way you can feel bad about yourself or your past when you KNOW that you’ve come through for another person in their time of need.
